Joy is most drawn to aspects of life with heart and meaning. Her path, leading to the current work she loves, seems to be a natural progression. Beginning with a Master's Degree in Biology/Nutrition, she was introduced to the mind/body connectedness. After working as a nutritionist for a number of years she became a hospice volunteer. That led to a 9 year role as Director of Volunteers for hospice. When Joy invited a yoga teacher to introduce the practice to the volunteers, it was love at first sight for her. She began teaching yoga in 1995. Yoga teachings and the work of Jon Kabat-Zinn brought her to teaching the Mindfulness class. She feels it is a culmination of all that came before.
Joy (LeVine Abrams) lives in Fairfield, CT
Some of her favorite quotes:
"Through mindfulness we begin to realize that it is often our own thinking, which we believe is "the truth", that causes us unhappiness, anxiety and depression."
YOU (inspired by an old poem)
"You may think that the world does not need you, but it does.
For you are unique, like no one that has ever been before or will come after.
No one can speak with your voice, say your piece, smile your smile, or shine your light.
No one can take your place, for it is yours alone to fill.
If you are not there to shine your light,
who knows how many travelers will lose their way
as they try to pass by your empty place in the darkness."
